Theme: Challenges of Telecommunication in Malaysia, and Insight of Future Developments
 
 
 
A panel of experts from the industry is invited to share their experiences and key technological insights on the telecommunication industry. With the theme “Challenges of telecommunication in Malaysia, and insights on future development”, successful and prominent industry key players will converge to present and discuss selected topics in this fast-growing field. The primary objective of the forum is to bridge the gap between industry’s future direction and research focus. The scopes of the topics are listed below.
 
 
 
 
 
Presentation 1: 4G Wireless Technologies and Beyond
Speaker: Senior member from Huawei
Scope: Current state of 4G technologies such as LTE, LTE-advanced, WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e), WiMAX2.0 (IEEE802.16m). What is beyond 4G, expectation on 5G and so on.
 
 
 
Presentation 2: Design Challenges of Future Mobile Devices
Speaker: Dr. Sim Moh Lim, Principal Engineer, Motorola Solutions
Scope: Higher processing power, smaller form factor, longer lasting battery and support of data rate hungry multimedia services with multiple radio interfaces such as WiFi, WiMAX, and LTE are becoming the de facto requirements of current and future smart phone devices. The presenter will share with us the design challenges in fulfilling the above requirements.
 
 
 
Presentation 3: Wireless Broadband Services in Malaysia – Current and Future
Speaker: Mr. Michael Lai, CEO P1
Scope: The speaker will share with us the history of 4G in Malaysia and P1’s journey/experience in promoting 4G and beyond. This includes a walkthrough on the infrastructure, network, and system as well as highlighting the expectations and challenges in providing future wireless broadband services.
   
 
 
Presentation 4: Prospects and Challenges of ICT R&D in Malaysia
Speaker: Dr. Gopi Kurup, CEO TM R&D
Scope: Are Malaysian R&D institutions doing enough to close the gap in the evolution of telecommunication industry? What are the challenges faces by local researchers? And what are the government policies in helping the nation in R&D? What roles can TM R&D play to bridge the gap?
